Summer Skin Care Tips for Oily Skin

Many of us are blessed with oily skin. The complications of having an oily skin make most of the people embarrassing. In people with oily skin, the signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines and age spots are delayed when compared to the other skin types and hence can have an advantage of having youthful and younger looking skin for a longer time. But there are several disadvantages of oily skin as well as excessive shine and sudden breakout of pimples and acne.

The summer brings hot and sunny days, which makes everyone’s skin more oily and greasy. But oily skin is more prone to pimples and breakouts. Having oily skin can be most frustrating when the excess oil gets accumulated with sweat during summers. If you are the one among many who are having oily skin.

Here are some Summer skin care tips you need to follow to deal with oily skin.

Avoid the sun

Being outdoors in the sun increases the oil secretion and makes you sweatier while exposing you to the harmful effects of UV rays. During the hours of 10 A.M to 3 P.M, the sun is at its strongest and most damaging, emitting almost unbearable light and heat. So, it is best to avoid the sun, particularly during this time. If you can’t stay indoors during these peak hours, make sure to cover your head and wear sunglasses.

Invest in good sunscreen

Most of the people don’t have a habit of using sunscreen. Applying sunscreen can help you to protect your skin from the sun and effects of UV light which is very bad for oily skin. Try a water based sunscreen with at least SPF 30++, as it helps your face to keep shine free and gives the protection you need.

Wash your face correctly

Cleaning your face is most important skin care routine you should never ignore. Washing oily skin is a tricky business as too little can make your skin look shinier with excessive oil and too much can strip your skin of its natural oils. Although we feel sweatier during the hot weather, it is not advisable to shower or wash your face more than twice a day.

If you over wash, the skin loses its moisture, making it believe that it should produce more oil to retain its hydration. So, you end up with getting excessive oil over time instead of controlling it. People with oily skin needs frequent washing at their T-Zone while the cheeks tend to dry up. So, instead of washing your face every time, blotting papers can help to soak up the excess oil in problem areas while keeping the required moisture.

Hydrate well

The skin looks healthy if it is well hydrated. Drink plenty of water and juices so your body is hydrated internally. Drinking appropriate amount of water can really help you to regulate the oil production of the skin. When your skin is properly hydrated, the brain sends signals to the oil glands that there is no need to produce excess oil. This consequently slows down the skin’s oil product. Hence, proper hydration results in the normalization of skin oils and reduces acne breakouts.

Watch what you eat

Your diet plays an important role in your skin’s health. Even if you follow a good skin care routine, nothing works if you have bad eating habits. With good skin care habits, diet contributes a lot to treat oily skin and acne. Avoid oily and junk food. The problem may get worse if you consume a lot of foods which are high in sugars, spices, and fat. Vegetables which are rich in vitamin A like carrots, spinach etc. can help to slow down the oil production. So, make sure to have a healthy and balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables.
